WAN

Wide area network.

WANS

Wide area networks is a network allowing the intercommunication and interconnection of a group of computers working over a long distance.

Wholesale service provider

The organisation that provides the computer servers that are needed for the playout of data and video and also the reception and the processing of responses from consumers via a modem. Subsequently the wholesale service provider may also provide other services to their retailers and retail service providers. For example, design and writing applications.

Wireless Access Protocol WAP

WAP was jointly developed in the mainstream of Internet standardisation activities, in 1999, notably, with the support of many vendors. WAP provides the basis for a host of brand new wireless information applications. It does so by offering a gateway that exists between the Internet and mobile telephones.Therefore if an application can be put onto the Internet, it can also be made available through WAP to mobile terminal users.
